I
am a triathlete who has suffered from achilles tendonitis for years. I
have seen physical therapists, massage therapists, acupuncturists all
to no avail. After my first treatment with Lyn-Genet I felt better. I
followed her yoga program for rehab and saw her once a week. Within
four weeks I was back to running pain free. By the second month I was
back to distance running. Manny P
I
have had massages with Lyn for 4 years and she is by far the best body
worker I have ever known. She understands anatomy and body biomechanics
- and is truly a healer. I would recommend her highly to anyone who has
an injury or needs some stress relief. She also has a wealth of
information on almost anything else you may need in your life! Dr Anna L
If anyone has ever doubted that
they could lose weight in a healthy way and actually be able to
maintain it, then you must come and see Lyn at Neighborhood Holistic
for a nutrition consultation. I have gone through many diet fads that
worked for a quick fix, but always struggled with how to keep the
weight off permanently without depriving myself of the foods my body
needs. When I went to see Lyn, I didn't know how amazing this life
style change would be. I lost 20 pounds in 2 months, have learned
so much about the way my body digests and processes different foods. I
not only feel good but I also feel so much more in control of what I am
putting into my body. The best part is that Lyn works with you step by
step to help you figure this out - so you’re not alone in the process. Y.P.
I am 8 months pregnant and had severe sciatica. I literally could not
walk or sit without pain. Lyn-Genet fixed me in ONE visit! I love her
and her staff! Lisa S
I never thought losing weight would be this easy, you're right this is not a diet but a new way of looking at food. It has changed my relationship with food! I'm down 30 lbs in two months and the weight is still coming off. P.S. Love the new menus! They are easy to prepare and taste like gourmet food! G.L.
Thank you so much for the 3 phase menu plan ! I have kept off the
weight and I feel amazing. Today, for example, I am wearing a pair of
pants that I last wore when I was 25!!!! Vanessa A
I was suffering from vertigo and had seen numerous doctors. Lyn-Genet
worked on me and by my fourth visit the vertigo was gone. She also
wound up helping my TMJ which I didn't even realize was connected to my
problem with vertigo! She is a miracle worker! Rose L
Lyn-Genet is not only an amazing massage therapist, she is an inspiration. Her knowledge of the human body, movement therapy and yoga is not only
extensive, she is also a great teacher, and able to help you understand
your condition and how to heal it. She takes a genuine interest in each client and makes sure to fully understand where the pain is coming from.
I was having constant lower back pain to the point where I was hardly
able to carry my 9 month old daughter. Lyn-Genet helped me get rid of
the pain with a combination of massage therapy, kinesiotape and taking
her "lower back pain yoga class".
I am following her advice on posture, stretching and exercising
religiously, which has helped me keep my back strong and pain free. Nike I
Lyn-Genet's eyes are uncanny! I walked into her midtown office and she
could tell what was wrong with me by just looking at me! I have had
chronic low back and hip pain for two years.A month later I was
pain-free! John T
I have been a migraine sufferer for all my life. Seeing Lyn-Genet
monthly keeps my migraines from coming back! Thanks to her work and the
techniques she taught me I have only had 1 migraine in an entire year!

I am writing on behalf of Neighborhood Holistic. The staff at the center are not afraid to push themselves and possess a determination to suceed that is inspiring! PS 180 has worked closely with NH for several years now; staff, parents and students have taken classes either on site or at PS180. These classes have been free or low cost. Without this generous discount, our families would not have had the opportunity to share in this type of programming. It is truly inspiring to work with such a dynamic organization in an area that is so often overlooked. NH can best be described by this quote from The Heart Of Leadership "effective leaders are always alert to the deeper issues agitating beneath a seeming rational veneer of activity. They read between the lines to struggle to find what's really going on. Once they get a lead..they ponder how to try and shape or reshape existing realities". I believe this quote sums up Neighborhood Holistic. Zoila V
NH is an important community resource for Central Harlem. Now, more than ever, stress reduction and maintaining good health is important to those living in urban areas. Yet staying healthy becomes more and more of a challenge. Gym memberships, regular massage, yoga and the like are still considered luxuries to many people I know. As disposable income diminishes, it has been very difficult to retain services and participate in healthful activities. NH is committed to its community and its mission to keep people well! They offer scholarships to low income individuals to participate in yoga, meditation, dance, massage therapy and other wellness services. I personally have taken advantage of this offering. I feel extremely grateful that the financial scholarships exist. Anon
Last year, I was the elected President of the Henry Street
School for International Studies’ Parents’ Association. Our parent
participation over the previous three years had been dismally low and in an
effort to build community with mothers on
Manhattan’s Lower East Side, I reached out to a number of NYC’s yoga centers
requesting assistance. The idea was to offer all female caregivers of
students a healthy and stress-free reason to come
into the building, get to know one another and feel welcome-- thus, leading
them to an increased involvement in other school sponsored learning and
activities with their children. Although I contacted no less than eight
organizations, Neighborhood Holistic was the only business entity to
respond. Problem was, the Henry Street School Parents Association had
extremely limited funds , as a low income community we could ill afford the
market-place cost of yoga classes-- it was understandable when no other yoga
centers showed interest in helping us achieve our goal.
From
the first introduction to Ms. Lyn-Genet Recitas of Neighborhood Holistic, the
executive board of the Parents Association knew we had met an angel in
business. She not only brought a vast knowledge of Yoga, but a true
interest in us, and a determination for sharing this healthy activity with our
community of color. Best of all, because of her savvy business acumen,
she created a plan that offered weekly classes at the school for as little as
$2, providing the attendees signed up for a minimum of three class
sessions. While I’m sure the classes were provided at a financial loss to
Neighborhood Holistic, the individual attention and benefit of the instruction
provided to us was phenomenal. Almost all of the mothers, grandmothers
and aunts were first timers to yoga and they absolutely loved it! The
classes were looked forward to and brought us together in a unique way.
We bonded, and mothers who had previously been absent from the Parents
Associations monthly meetings were suddenly engaged, showed up to volunteer and
participated in a host of other school activities. Achieving our goal to
create a sense of community and increased parent participation was priceless,
and this accomplishment would not have occurred without the yoga classes.
I am indebted to Neighborhood Holistic. Benita R.
Ms Alphonso is a Professional Esthetician, but I’d go even further to say that she’s a Healing Esthetician.
Bonny puts her heart and soul into her facials which she recognizes as not just work, but a gift to be shared.
